Modern, architecturally designed houses for people with complex disability support needs will soon be available in Geelong and Wyndham Vale with the emergence of a new type of housing funding under the NDIS. The introduction of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding moves away from the multi-resident group homes of the past. Qualifying participants with a disability now have the opportunity to live with one or two housemates in a sought-after location, close to public transport and amenities.
CareChoice is collaborating with NDIS registered housing providers across Melbourne and key regional areas to offer forever homes for people with a disability along with CareChoice’s day-to-day support services in new houses. Currently, eight houses are on offer – four at Mt Duneed and four in Wyndham Vale – for eligible (SDA) participants. The houses are due for completion in early 2020.
These large three-bedroom houses are designed for two participants with an onsite overnight accommodation (OOA) room for a support worker. The six-star energy rated houses include features such as structural provisions for ceiling hoists, extra-wide hallways, assistive technology as well as individual heating and cooling units to accommodate high physical support needs.
CareChoice will carefully match eligible participants, connect them with the SDA housing provider and then provide ongoing care for supported independent living.
